Over the five years we’ve lived at home, the most appealing factors for us have been the perfect size of the house as our first home, its location, the neighborhood, and its location. Oh, did we say place twice? Yes. That’s how conveniently it was located for us. Its proximity to the Valley Fair Mall, Santana Row, the San Jose Airport, and the shopping and restaurants on El Camino Real have been amazing.
Drive to work and back was never a chore (The new Apple Park campus is less than 4 miles away).
The perfect-sized 2-car garage and the private and quiet backyard have made it a perfectly sized townhome. The natural lighting in the living room and the upstairs rooms have proved helpful when working from home during the pandemic. The kitchen, with its walk-in pantry, has been a joy to cook in.
Oranges
The huge orange tree just in front of the home has proved to be bountiful year after year. We’ve had a lot of fun picking and enjoying the oranges with my kid. The backyard is also perfect for growing lemons and beans and maintaining an herb garden.
Neighborhood
The home is on a street with many historic and tree-lined side streets. It’s been a lot of fun to take my kid biking and to go on a run. The traffic is light enough never to bother us during these activities.
Several well-maintained parks (Henry Schmidt Park being our favorite one) are a short walk away, which has helped keep us connected with other families in the neighborhood.
Halloween/Christmas has been extremely popular with all our neighbors, and everyone comes up with amazing decorations for both holidays. Our favorite activity every year has been to walk around the neighborhood to look at all the fun decorations.
Activities
There is no shortage of activities – be it shopping for groceries (on El Camino Real or at the Costco – a 10-minute drive), window shopping (and real) at malls (Valley Fair mall – just two miles away), movies (again at Valley Fair mall) or Restaurants (there are several great ones on Santana Row (2 miles away), on El Camino Real and – did we mention this already – Valley Fair). The convenience of all this spoilt us for any move we’ve made since then, or we’ll do in the future.
Travel
The proximity to Caltrain stops (4 miles away) and San Jose Airport (again less than 5 miles away) make it well connected. I’ve loved traveling out of the San Jose Airport just for the time it takes me to hop off the airplane and get home – all in less than 20 minutes.
